It all starts with Annie. She was a mother, a sister, daughter and a friend to people she knew for years and those she knew for a few minutes. Annie had a warm smile, a self-sacrificial spirit, and a big heart. She had compassion for humanity, especially those in need.

In 2018, while Annie was working at a gas station, she noticed a couple living in their car behind the building.  She wondered how life could be so unfair. Why should these two live in their car while I have a spacious apartment to myself? In true Annie fashion, she opened up her heart and home, and offered the couple temporary shelter. Soon after, it became apparent that Annie could no longer share her resources or continue to house the couple. Annie's self-sacrificial spirit soon led her to experience homelessness herself.

But Annie was never alone. Her dog, Millie, stayed by her side, providing protection, company, and unconditional love. Their connection, friendship, and mutually beneficial support system created a responsibility that gave Annie a purpose. Millie depended on Annie, and Annie on Millie.

While there were numerous shelters and housing programs available, these programs were unable to accept Annie and Millie together. Unwilling to surrender Millie, Annie was unable to receive the services she needed. Without those necessary resources, life on the streets got tougher. Yet, Annie's spiritual faith in God remained strong and militant. There were instances where Annie found occasional help and support from a variety of people along the way. However, none of it was enough to prevent her physical and emotional health from wearing down.

Eventually, Annie decided that life on the streets and Earth were too much to bear. She longed to return home to her Father God. On June 25, 2019, Annie leashed Millie to the front porch of a home where she was sheltering and took her own life.

A friend stopped by to check-in on Annie and found a frantic Millie desperately barking for help. When released, Millie ran directly into the house to be near Annie, who had already passed.

A broken-hearted Millie was taken by Animal Control. It's our hope and belief that Millie has found a loving, forever home and we find comfort in knowing that Annie has, too.
